Jean-François Vrod began playing the fiddle as a teenager at the parisian folk club Le Bourdon. It is then that he started collecting traditional music in the mountains of Massif central. He did so trying to find balance between preserving traditional musics and finding a contemporary approach to playing them.
To that end, he spent his life working and collaborating with many artists and projects : Dominique Pifarely, Alain Savouret, Abbi Patrix, Fantazio, Denis Charolles et la Campagnie des musiques à ouïr, Frédéric Le Junter, Frédéric Aurier et Sylvain Lemêtre au sein du trio La Soustraction des Fleurs, le quatuor Bela, le GMEA d’Albi, Jean Pierre Drouet, Jean Luc Faffchamps (Ensemble Ictus)…
His last two records with the trio La Soustraction des Fleurs were released on Radio France’s label Signature and the third on the label Umlaut records
